Lifehacker on Crapware

I encountered a recent post at Lifehacker on “Windows crapware” which surprised me a bit on a few items, until I realized that I haven’t really had to deal with Windows for quite some time. Now that I’m contemplating using Windows a bit more for development purposes, including simulating Windows developer workflows and patterns, the [...]

I’ve always wondered whether I could assemble a decent home theater PC that a lot of tinkerers would enjoy. A lot of folks have already posted their buildouts, but Jeff Atwood recently posted his new setup with an AMD 780G chipset. Are PCs entering a new consumer-based commoditization?
N.B.
Tom’s Hardware has more info on the AMD [...]

Evils of WordPress

While I was researching how to resolve the various bugs that had popped up in WordPress, I was googling around and searching the WordPress forum. I even got into the swing of things of reporting bugs, so I left a few detailed notes about my major issues with the Insert Into Post feature as SteveJava. [...]

Watch Out!
As some of you have already noticed, depending on how you typically arrive at this blog, the URL may have changed for you.
I’ve been working on resolving a series of seemingly mysterious user-related and administrative “bugs” that have popped up since the blog began running on WordPress 2.5 and its subsequent upgrade to 2.5.1. [...]

Popular Programming Languages

Yeah, yeah, I know, I know…
TIOBE Software is, in fact, a commercial software company.
However, they also manage the popularity contest/index for software programming languages called the “TIOBE Programming Community Index”.
It’s fun to see which languages are “hot” now, and which are becoming more and more obscure. Not to say that there’s a correlation between popularity [...]

I can easily see the need to have multiple blogs on the same site, or associated sites, governed by a common user database, but with everything else separate. For instance, if there was a need for a “general” blog and a more “gaming” blog as well as a “social” blog. It would make sense to [...]

As reported by the WordPress folks themselves, they’ve released version 2.5.1 of their product, which provides a series of security and bug fixes.
Javamancy.com will be upgrading to this latest version once it has completed our CM procedures. Thanks for being patient, folks! Until then, version 2.5 will be in circulation for a short while longer. [...]

As I was playing a Xbox 360 guilty pleasure of mine called Crackdown, I noticed something new on one of the billboards: “Halo 3 Legendary Pack Available Now”. I’m fairly certain, when I passed by that billboard (it’s at the northern part of the Volk “Den” area, bordering the Shai-Gen territory, and near the Observatory), [...]

Just in case you’re a Mac user but haven’t heard about this yet:
MacUpdate is a site that offers a variety of downloads targeted for the Mac platforms. It’s a nice place to go browse for software, but every so often, as a promotional gig, they also offer time-limited MacUpdate software bundles on their associated site, [...]

The Setup
For many of you who aren’t aware (yet) of my coffee predilections: I consume coffee. At one point in my life, I would routinely ingest 5-6 of the 10-12 cup capacity pots o’ coffee per day. That may be considered a lot of coffee. These days, my schedule and proximity to coffee-emitting sources generally [...]
