Hot on the heels of its iPhone rollout at the Best Buy retail chain that began this past Sunday, Apple [AAPL] is giving its September product announcements under its new “Let’s Rock” program, starting at 1:00 PM ET (10:00 AM PT).
There have been a lot of rumors abounding… and a lot of people are expecting [...]

Remember the blurb about how the Mac version of Google’s [GOOG] Chrome Web browser will not be initially available? It seems that the Googlebies have taken that mention to heart, so they’ve made E-mail notification available to interested parties.
So, if you’re a Mac enthusiast (and who isn’t these days?) and don’t mind getting a stray [...]

A Little Bit:
The rumors floating around for the past several weeks about the Apple [AAPL] September product announcements have solidified: Engadget has a post confirming September 9, 2008 as the date. The anticipated product line for the refresh is the iPod. However, I’m still hopeful for MacBook and MacBook Pro refreshes and updates.:-)

The Setup
I have been agonizing for several days about whether to sign up for the SERO plan and get a Palm Centro “smartphone”, or switch cell carriers to AT&T and angle for an Apple iPhone. As I was struggling with the various issues and advantages of each package and device late into the nights, I [...]

Preface
Folks, this is one of those historical tales of wonder (or, alternatively, extreme boredom) that I bring out whenever somebody has one of those funny ah-ha stories they bring to my attention.
In the Beginning
Way back in the primordial days of modern computing, I programmed on an Apple.
Not a Mac, but an Apple ][, when it [...]

In case you missed this announcement back on June 16, 2008…
The folks at Macworld have been showcasing what they call “Mac Gems” weekly for quite some time, but starting on June 16 and continuing until sometime in mid-August, they’re planning on presenting Mac Gems every day.
A “Mac Gem” is free or low-cost software that the [...]

As many of you know, and some of you have figured out, I use Macs.
It isn’t merely one or two Macs, either. No… let’s just say, “Several. Oh yes, M-A-N-Y.”
Because of the army of Macs milling about, it’s important to make sure that a codified standard tool set is available on each of the machines [...]

Remember my rant (post-memory upgrade on the Mac Pro) about Firefox 2.0 bombing around 900 MB-ish RAM utilization level?
Here’s a quick update:
It looks like Firefox 2.0.0.14 is still hanging on, without crashing. Thus far, it’s pushed to the 1.18 GB RAM utilization level, and there’s still 1.33 GB of free system memory not yet touched.
Excellent!

The Setup
This is becoming an all-too-frequent occurrence these days:
I was minding my own business, relaxing at the Alexandria Starbucks (yes, it’s somehow managed to turn into the Javamancy Annex over the past several weeks), when a person would sidle up next to me, look lustfully at the PowerBook (PB), then say something like, “Er– so, [...]

Lately, I’ve been noticing a disquieting issue with Firefox 2.0. It typically seems to die around 850 - 892 MB RAM utilization (total RAM utilization will vary); sometimes, I get lucky enough to get higher, toward almost 1 GB RAM utilization before it croaks.
When I got my Mac Pro as a stock configuration, I was thinking, [...]
